Groceries for God

The Grocery Card Gift Certificate/Gift Card Program

Why not?

  • No cost to the church
  • No cost to you
  • Benefits for many!

Support your church with this win-win project!

Want to give hundreds of dollars to missions without spending an extra dime? You can! Shop with gift cards purchased through our Groceries for God program and Hy-Vee, Dillon’s, and Ray’s will give 4-5% back to the church.

Since the average cost of food for a family of four in 2010 was $6000-13825–not including pharmacy costs–this is a sweet deal. Grocery certificates/cards work just like cash…anywhere in the stores!  The pharmacy, the deli, gasoline…all areas of these stores accept their grocery certificates/cards like cash.*

Dillons and Hy-Vee give us 4% of each gift card purchased.  Ray’s Apple Market gives us 5%.  Therefore, for every $100 you spend, FUMC receives $4-$5.

You can purchase gift cards, which are available in denominations of $10 and $25, each Sunday morning at coffee hour and at various other church gatherings.

Earnings from the program are used to fund special church projects and missions.  Fund raising is directed by J. Lester & Olive Hooper (785-539-6855).  The Groceries for God Committee determines where the earnings are spent.

History of the Groceries for God Program

The Groceries for God Program began on October 25, 1995.  Our church members volunteer to sell the certificates/cards.  Our sales over the past 15 years total over $2 million.  (That’s a lot of groceries!)  The G.F.G. Committee has granted over $80,000 to unbudgeted church and mission projects.  We hope that you will continue to purchase certificates/cards so that we can fund many more worthy projects.

Scripture for Today

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.” - James 3:17-18 NIV
